Developing Dharma Wisdom While Living Wholeheartedly and Joyfully

A Non-Residential Weekend Retreat with Anushka Fernandopulle

October 12-13, 2024

Bodhi Tree Dharma Center, 654 N Judd St, Honolulu, HI 96817

How can we spend our short time on earth feeling connected, fully present, and at ease? We can practice mindfulness and heartfulness, which reveals the characteristics of this life and a wise way to hold experience, regardless of how it unfolds. Join us for a weekend of Buddhist practice together, where we investigate how to live with integrity and grow in wisdom and in love. We will include talking about how to find balance in the face of personal and societal uncertainty. We will be practicing sitting meditation, walking meditation, and mindful eating in silence. There will be time for questions and information about how to continue these practices at home.

Anushka Fernandopulle has trained in the Theravada Buddhist tradition in the US, India and Sri Lanka for over 35 years. She is a Core Teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in California and teaches Insight Meditation retreats and workshops around the world. Her teaching is informed by arts, nature, social justice and modern urban life. For more info please see www.anushkaf.org

Anushka will also be offering a talk on Wednesday, October 9th at Bodhi Tree from 6:30-8pmwhich will be free and open to the public.

Dana

In accordance with tradition, all Vipassana Hawai’i internationally respected teachers offer their teachings free of charge and are supported through the freely-offered generosity of students and supporters. Costs associated with retreats cover the growing expenses associated with online services, online storage, broadcasting equipment, and website administration - but do not support teacher time, training, effort, or energy. We believe that this commitment helps keep the purity of the teachings alive and thriving, as it has for millennia. They do not collect salaries in keeping with the time-honored tradition of sharing openly the chance for peace. This allows us to keep our registration fees as low as possible but also means that the livelihood of our teachers is precarious. As a result, we strive to give back in any for - including monetarily - so that they may continue their endeavors and share their wisdom. Vipassana Teachers must be supported in this way if we are to keep this tradition alive, healthy, and with integrity in the modern era. Dana, or generosity, can be offered by cash or check at the end of the retreat or online here.

Any additional income generated by registration fees, after covering program expenses, will be shared between Bodhi Tree and Vipassana Hawaii.

Bodhi Tree Dharma Center

The Bodhi Tree Dharma Center is spiritual center offering meditative practices from a variety of traditions. Our vision is to make the practice of meditation openly available to those in society most in need; to develop and deepen the capacity for unconditional, selfless dedication to the service of others; and to exercise innovation and creativity in the application of Mindfulness to healing, the arts and daily living.

The Center also serves as a spiritual, educational and social gathering place for Vietnamese, Burmese and Thai residents. These communities hold their ceremonies and host visiting monks at the Center. Classes in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Non Violent Communication are offered along with Vipassana and Tibetan forms of meditation for our English speaking community.
